Why Speaking Should Be Apart of Your Marketing Strategy
Are you posting every day on social media and sitting back thinking “come on, people, why aren’t you buying my stuff?”. Or maybe you’re stressed
Investing in your personal brand is essential for building your brand equity and establishing your value in the marketplace. In today’s competitive business environment, a well-crafted personal brand can give you a competitive advantage and help you stand out from the crowd.
Whether we acknowledge it or not, we ALL have a brand. You may be the class clown, the bougie friend, the rich auntie, or the sneaker-head. No matter the title people use to describe us, we all have a personal brand. Your brand is shaped by public perception, or how the people who personally know you were first introduced to you, your products and services. You may be the fun, reliable cousin to a family member, but the mean, stern boss to a colleague. This is why it’s important to be intentional about who you are and what you represent because depending on what chapter of your life people walk in on, your brand can be either positive or negative in the eyes of the public.
Personal Branding is the process of developing a “mark” that is created around who you are at your core. You use this “mark” to express and communicate your personality, values, and expertise. The end goal is that the personal brand you develop will build your reputation and grow your network in a way that interests others. They will then seek you out for your knowledge and expertise in a particular area, and you become the go-to authority in all things “blank” (insert subject matter here).
Whether we’re aware of it or not, we are all affected by branding. It is and has always been, a persuasive and pervasive force in the marketplace. It is a powerful marketing tool that has been proven, time and time again, to have influenced people’s buying habits. It is designed to work in concert with basic conscious and subconscious factors to affect overall decision-making. If done correctly, the customer isn’t even aware of this influence or effect at all. Branding is amazing, almost magical, in its ability to impact opinion, and, with the development of technology, that ability has grown exponentially (which is both a gift and a curse).
So how do you begin the process of branding yourself?…I’m glad you asked!
Your personality includes your personal appearance, character traits, behaviors, and differentiation. Personality is a fundamental aspect of an individual’s identity and has a profound impact on your thoughts, behaviors, emotions, and life choices. Understanding your core personality and how it shapes your life can help you make more informed decisions and lead a more fulfilling life.
Your values include your motivations, principles, and desires. Someone who values spending time with family may prioritize work-life balance, while someone who values competition may be #teamnosleep. It is important for individuals to identify and understand their personal values in order to make business decisions that align with their beliefs and desired lifestlye.
Your expertise includes your skills, core competencies, and education/experience. Identifying your area of specialization and the unique skills and knowledge you bring to the table will help you to establish yourself as a thought-leader in your industry. Clarifying and communicating your expertise is how you position yourself as a viable solution in the marketplace, thus allowing you to be a reputable player in your field.
Whether you acknowledge it or not these 3 elements are the driving force of your life and will affect how you do business. They exist whether you “market” them or not. What I now know as my personal brand was developed long before I even knew what “branding or a brand strategist” was (or did).
Building a recognizable brand is essential for long-term business/career success. By defining your brand identity, communicating it consistently, investing in quality design, and engaging with your audience, you can imprint your brand into the hearts and minds of your target audience and drive exponential business success. So don’t wait, start building your brand today!
